This is an alternative assignment for the Edgenuity on "Modern Drama Study."
The point of this section in your curriculum is to understand how people convey important ideas and character motivations in a type of writing, the play or screenplay, that makes it much more difficult to figure out.
You will build a character and write a short scene in a modern screenplay format (like for TV and Hollywood).

For most screenplays, there isn't a narrator to tell the audience how a character is feeling. We have to rely on what they say and what they do.
Task 1: See How It Works
Task 2: Build Your Character
Another goal of this section is to teach you to notice themes and how they drive a story.
Task 3: Write Your Scene
- Rather than reading about how writers use dialogue and action to tell us who a character is as a person, you will build a character and then write a scene to show us who that character is yourself through what they do, what they say, and how they say it.
Task 1: See How It Works
- Read this SHORT SCENE from the Twilight Zone episode "The Monsters are Due on Maple Street."
- Then, WRITE one paragraph on Google Docs explaining how one of the characters feels during the scene and how you know. What do they say or do that proves they feel that way?
- SHARE your Doc with your teacher.
Task 2: Build Your Character
- Fill out the QUESTIONNAIRE for your character. If you don't have any ideas, you can take a character from a book, movie, or game you like and change the name.

Another goal of this section is to teach you to notice themes and how they drive a story.
- Rather than reading about that, you will build a theme into your scene by having your character
- show or explain why something is so important to him/her,
- learn an important lesson,
- or realize something important about life
Task 3: Write Your Scene
- Use the GUIDE to write your own scene with your character in GoogleDocs.
- SHARE it with your instructor when you are done.
